WASHINGTON – The United States is renewing its terrorism alert for Britain based on a continuing high threat-level in the country as a similar warning for all of Europe expired.
The State Department on Monday says it has renewed the alert for England, Scotland, Wales and North Ireland due to the ongoing "potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems, aviation and other travel infrastructure." Britain had been included in a Europe-wide terror alert that the department issued last October. That alert expired on Monday and the department has not said why it is not being renewed.
The new alert advises Americans to "maintain a high level of vigilance" and boost their security awareness while in Britain. It expires at the end of April.
