MONTEREY, Calif. -- Authorities say two 17-year-old high school students from Carson City, Nev. have died in a diving accident off Monterey, Calif.
Monterey fire Division Chief Felix Colello says two boys from of a group of 19 on a Saturday diving excursion in Monterey Bay failed to resurface.
Colello said after a 45-minute search, employees of the diving company found the boys at the bottom under 40 to 50 feet of water.
He says both were in cardiac arrest when they were pulled to the surface, and were declared dead at a hospital.
Carson City Schools Superintendent Richard Stokes tells the Nevada Appeal they were sophomores in an oceanography class at Carson High School. Their names have not been released.
Colello said the coroner's office was investigating the cause of the deaths.
